On Thursday evening last a very successful plain and fancy dress social was held in the Gapes's VaJley Hall, in aid of the local Red Cross Sewing Guild and Home and Empire League. The hall was suitably decorated with- flags and greenery. There wore several moneymaking novelties,- among/which was the sale of a live pig,'.:presented by Mr A. E.. Heyder, which realised over. £3. A beautifully embroidered cushion, made and presented by Mrs Tagg, realised over £2, and the sale of sweets, Ehotographs and tickets ; of admission nought the total proceeds up to £2O. Supper was provided by the ladies of the Sewing Guild. A' successful dance took plana on Monday evening in the Ridglcy Hall in aid qf the Navy League War Funds. It resulted in over £7 being realised. There were about one hundred people present. The supper table was decorated witlt spring flowers. The chaperones wore Mrs Stanley and Mrs Turner. The committee responsible for the arrangements consisted of Misses D. Farreil, Miss J. Hartle, Miss M. M'lntosh, and Miss F. Ardley; Messrs A. Turner, H. Fcasb, E. Reed and 8. Denton Amongst those present were Miss R. Seed, Miss A. Tait, Miss Coleman, Miss S. Hood, Miss Wreathall, Misses'Bird (2),.Miss Sybil Thomson, Miss Freda Mazej-j Miss A. everyone, and doubtless this week's effort that is being made on behalr of the Lady Liverpool Trench Comfort.'! will meet with an excellent response. The stall in the Square yesterday morning, presided over and arranged by members of the Hinemoa Ladies' Swimming Club, showed that a vast amount of preparation had" been done. To-day the stall will be iri charge of the Port Levy Branch of the Lady Liverpool Fund, when the specialty will be spring flowers On Thursday the \Uxiliary Committee of the Lady Liverpool. Fund will be'in charge, -when there will bo a wonderfulvariety of goods for sale.-.. .., , A few_ drops,of Chloro-Menthene inhaled from the. palms of .the ..hands.is., sufficient to nip a cold in the bud.
