THE ONLY ARGUMENT.
GERMANY'S IDEA OF RIGHT,
“ Americans mart understand that Germany will stop at nothing to win this war, and that tho only thing they respect is force.” It was a bitter day for Germany when President Wilson roused the United ■ States to tho fact that war with Germany was essential in tho interests of freedom sad democracy. The words at tho head of this par&grapn wero written by Mr James W. Gerard in his world-famous work, "My Four jfears in Germany.' Mr Gerard was the Ambassador of the United States at Berlin when. tho European war broke out, and ho had a unique opportunity of judging tho German character and ol gauging the depths of iniquity which it would plumb in the hopo of enforcing kultur on tho world. That is why ho said of Gormans that “the only thing they respect is force." Why ho came to this conclusion is most clearly shown itt tho film version of his groat work, which is to bo shown for tho first time _in Christchurch at Everybody’s and the Liberty Theatre on Saturday next. This picture is net tho ordinary adaptation of a book, departing widely, as such often do, from the true spirit of the parent work. It is s> wonderfully faithful reproduction of Mr Gerard's great work. No belter guarantee of this statement can be given than tho ..filming, which was carried out by tho First National Exhibitors, of America-, was supervised fhreughout by Mr Gerard himself. More wonderful than any work of fiction, "My Four Years in Germany ” is absolutely end entirely true to fact. Tiio * box plan for the Christchurch season will open at Tho Bristol to-morrow, and seat* may be booked thers, or by ringing ’phones 3923 or 2365.
