At a meeting of the Technical College Board of Governors held last.r.ight, the director (Mr J. H. Howell) reported that Private John Ashworth, whose death took place at the Featherston camp recently, -was an old boy of the college, having taken the agricultural course during the sessions 1913 and 1914. ■ A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Private Ashworth was carried in silence, members standiug. Miss E. Appleyard, of 146, Cranford Street, St Albans, has received word that her brother. Sergeant D. Appleyard, has died of wounds received in France on July 16. He was the second sun of the late Mr Thomas Appleyard, and received his education at the Richmond School. He afterwards followed his trade as a carpenter. For some years he was employed at the Fareora trse»ing works, but recently was clerk of works for Messrs Pepper, builders, ol Wanganui. He,was at one time a. prominent member o." the Richmond Football Club, and took a keen interest in all sports. Mr W. Bennett. Anama, Ashburton County, has been advised that his son, ■ Trooper G. \V. Bennett, was admitted to the 26th Stationary Hosnital. Palestine, on July 29, dangerously ill, suffering from appendicitis. He enlisted with the Twenty-ninth Reinforcements, but left New Zealand with the Thirtyfirst Mounted Rifles. Mr and Mrs Dobbs have received advice that their second son, Private Cyril Dobbs, has been transferred to a convalescent depot in France. Mr A. Clephane, 344, Manchester Street, has received advice that his son. Rifleman Alexander Clephane, has been wounded and was admitted to a hospital in England on July 21. Enlisting on. his twentieth birthday, he left yew Zealand with the Thirty-third Reinforcements, and since reaching England he has received a first-class marksman badge Prior to enlisting he was in the employ of Mr J. R. Procter, optician.
