Murdooh, Lawrence, Otago, father). I - i : PERSONAL NOTES. I Mr John Kirby has received advice that his youngest son, Private Miohaal Kirby, was killed in action on January 13. Private Kirby, who\waa twentythree years of age, was a native of Timaru, Aid received his education at the Marist Brothers’ School. Prior to enlisting with the Twenty-eighth Reinforcements he was employed at the Smithfield Freezing Works. Mir Kirby has three other sons at the front— Rifleman James, who has been wounded twice, left with the Fourth Rifle Brigalo. Private Timothy left with the Thirtieth Reinforcements, and Private Dennis with the Thirty-third Reinforcements. ' Official cable news from Delhi reports that Lieutenant B. E. Tibbs, attached to the Inland Water Transport, Mesopotamia, is reported missing. It is believed that he was'drowned on January 9. He is a son of the head master of the Auckland Grammar School, and was in the Imperial service for two years in Mesopotamia. Private W. J. Ellis (Toby), killed in action in France, was the youngest sop of Mrs J. Ellis, Jones Street, Kaiapoi. He was thirty-one years of age on 'January 4 and left with the Twentyfourth Reinforcements. Private Ellis ’, was employed at the Kaiapoi Woollen Mills, and at the time of leaving for camp was the vice-president of the Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club. He was Dne of the founders of the North Can--1 terbury Miniature Rifle Association and was its first secretary and treasurer. He was also a prominent member of the LOyal Kaiapoi Lodge, 1.0.0. F., , M.U., and had occupied the various 1 chairs of that lodge. At a meeting of . the Canterbury Woollen Workers’ L Union on Saturday night a motion of ■ condolence with the relatives of Private ► Ellis was carried. F Mrs Withell, 35, Buckley’s Road, : Linwood. has received cable advice that her husband, Private W. J.. Withell, who has been in several hospitals, suffering with wounds reoeived on October 12, has heen transferred to the New Zealand Discharge Depot, England, l sndwill return shortlv to the Dominion. He left with the Twenty-sixth Reinforcements. Mr W. H. Tozer, 224. Selwyn Street, Sprevdon, has received a cable from the Minister of Defence that his son, Private George Tozer, was admitted to ; hospital on January 17 suffering from L a severe attack of bronchitis. Private Tozer was wounded in the Messines battle. He left New Zealand with the Thirteenth Reinforcements. Mrs' Perham, Jerrold Street, Sprey<°on, has tfneeived advice that her son Riflemap Frederick Jphn Perham, was i wounded on January 8. Prior to leaving with the Twenty-Sixth Reinforcements. Rifleman Perham, who was educated at the West Christchurch School, was in the employment nf Mr H. Rosatowski, Opawa.
