SOLDIER SETTLEMENTS.

PURCHASE OF TEVIOT. [Peb Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 29. The Prime Minister stated to-day that the Government lias purchased for the purpose of a soldier settlement the property in Otago known as Teviot, consisting of 12,000 acres of freehold and 1900 acres of Crown leasehold. The greater part of it will be cut up into sheep farms. A considerable portion is suitable for agricultural purposes, and good crops have been grown on the property during the present season. A small proportion is suitable for fruit growing. This is looked upon as one of the best of the large holdings now remaining in the South Island.
