TEACHERS AND THE WAR.
A WELLINGTON APPLICATION. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 24. The Wellington Education Board made application to the Military Board to-day for the- of three teachers, and in the case of one an unusual position was disclosed. The teacher (Sergeant Duncan) enlisted and went to the front, but be-, came unfit and is now doing clerical work in London. The Education Board requested, in view of the shortage of teachers, that lie should he brought back and given leave to take up teach r ing work again. As it is probable that regulations dealing with such eases will be gazetted shortly, decision was deferred for a week, and the general question ot exemption of teachers was also deferral. The chairman said that the board .fully appreciated the position.
