Air Service, who was previously reported missing and is now unofficially reported killed on June 6, was the only son of Mr and Mr 3 William Pember Reeves, and grandson of the late Hon William Reeves, of Christchurch. He was twenty-one years

of age. The High Commissioner, on behalf of the New Zealand Government and of the Anglo-New Zealand community in London, has forwarded a letter of 'condolence to Mr Pember Reeves on the loss of his son. At.the close of the morning service at the Rangiora Presbyterian Church yesterday, the congregation passed a

motion expressing great sympathy with Mr and Airs 1\ R. Cresswell on the death of their son, Private G. H. Cresswell, recently killed in action. Rifleman Alfred Charles Varney, reported killed in action in France on October 12, was the second son of Mrs E. Varney, of Hanover Street. Dunedin. Prior to enlisting with the Twelfth Reinforcements, he was employed by Messrs W. Gregg and Co., where he held the position of packer for many years. He went through all the big engagements with the New Zeaianders without being wounded. He was twenty-one years of age, and leaves a widow and one child. Driver Cecil Hunter, killed in action on October 25, was the youngest son of Mrs Hunter, Brunswick Street, South Dunedin- He received his education at Macandrew Road School. He left New Zealand with the Fifteenth Artillery Reinforcements, and on reaching England received an appointment to the howitzer battery which was proceeding to the front immediately. After six months of strenuous work there he was granted holiday leave to Lowdon, and. had just returned to Franco again when he met his death. Driver Hunter was employed for many years in the grain department of Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., and prior to enlisting was acting as town traveller for Messrs F. Meenan and Co., of Dunedin.

Private James Joseph Hickey, killed in action in France on October 12, was the voungest son of Mr Henry Hickey, South Dunedin. He was born in Dunedin and educated at Caversham and St Patrick's Schools. Prior to enlisting he was a member of the Hibernian Society and of the Southern Football Club. He took a keen interest in all sports. He served his apprenticeship as a moulder at Messrs Cossens and Black's. Ho left with-the Fourteenth Reinforcements, Served at Gallipoli and had been through all the fighting, in which the New Zealanders wer o engaged up to the time of his death. His brother Thomas left Dunedin with the Second Battalion of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. Advice, has been received that Rifleman John Walsh, of the Seventeenth Reinforcements, was killed in action in France on October 12. Rifleman \Valsh was the voungest son of Mrs J. Wilson, 12 Hawdon Street, Sydenham, and was born at Pleasant Point twenty-six years ago. He was educated at the Svdenham School, and prior to enlistment was employed at the Antigua Boatsheds. He leaves a widow and three children. A brother, who left with the Twentv-tifth Reinforcements, was recently wounded, and it is expected that he will shortly be invalided home.

Mrs Baker, of Barrington Street, has received cable advice that her sou. Trooper Alan Baker, has been admitted to hospital in France suffering from diphtheria. Trooper Baker left New Zealand with the Eighth Reinforcements.

Mrs G- Cully, King Street, Sydenham has received news that her husband Lance-Corporal George Cully, is convalescent and progressing well. He was admitted to the hospital about two months ago, suffering with myalgia. Before ooing into camp as a member if C Company, Twenty-first Reinforcements, he was engaged 'in business on his own account in Sydenham- He was a member of the Sydenham Lodge U.A.O.D. For some years he was a police constable in Canada, and came to New Zealand about seven years ago. Mrs W. Hodge (Caversham, Dunedin) has received word that her son, Private W. G. Hodge, of tho Seventeenth Reinforcements, was wounded on October 12. Prior to enlisting Private Hodge was a. popular member of the Sydenham Football Club, and was .well known throughout Sydenham.
