HEAVY RAIN AT GISBORNE.
[Pek Paras Association.] GISBORNE, November 22, A phenomenal 'rainstorm on Wed* nesday night and to-day was accompanied by a boisterous southerly gale. Most of the business premises in tho main street report damage by rain entering the shops, and a rough eati-. mate places the damage at £IOOO. \ The Arahura arrived from Napier this morning, but could not be worked on account of the heavy sea, and after standing off and on all day she was ordered to proceed to Auckland, overcarrying mails, passengers and cargo. The Monowai, from Auckland, was due this afternoon,. but is not expected till the morning, when it is doubtful if she can bo tendered.
Considerable losses among shorn sheep are feared.
