SEAMEN’S WAGES. NATIONAL BOARD APPOINTED.* A and N.Z. Cable Association and Reutor. LONDON, November 2. Tho Press Bureau reports that tho National Board on seamen’s wages has now been established. Tho Shipping Controller will appoint tho chairman. (A cablegram received on October 5 said:—The Shipping Controller has established a Conciliation Committee, at whoso invitation representatives of shipowners and seamen have been discussing tho possibility of standard national rates of wages and machinery to regulate tlie supply, on conditions as to employment. The Ministry is satisfied regarding the expediency of national rates, and is prepared to ereato tho necesary machinery, and confidently hopes an agreement between all parties will be reached, with the fullest cooperation on all matters.) TOLL OF WAR. NEW ZEALAND OFFICER KILLED. (Received November 4, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. November 3. Captain Paul Barker, of the Royal Artillery, late of AVailii, lias been killed manoeuvres.”
