As a sequel to an otitbreak of fir© in the office of tho Gisborne Gas Company early this morning police investigations are understood to show that the strong-room door waa wide open. and inside two ledgers were propped open with tarred sticks. Ono of tho ledgers was recovered partly burned. Tho safo was also found open and thi contents disarranged, and a fairly eon- | siderable sum of money was missing.. Later Detective M'Leod arrested the company's accountant, Frank Parnell who was brought before the Magistrate' charged with arson 1 in wilfully setting the premises afi.ro. The police were granted a remand for a week. Accused ! was admitted to bail, self £IOO and i sureties for a like amount. ' ?
