BABIES HOSPITAL.

SITE ON THE CASHMERE HILLS,

A VERY DESIRABLE PROPERTY

The property on the Cashmere Hiiw .' bought by the Sites Committee of,the Plunket Society for a babies' hospital is regarded as a very suitable and desirable place for the purpose, from both the utilitarian and other points of view. The building, which is the principal consideration, has.nino rooms, in addition to offices, and some of the rooms are very large and lofty. It has been constructed of brick, with jarrah tim- • ber, and is fitted with electric light. , There are a tile roof and a deep portico verandah. Tho land covers four acres twenty-seven perches. It has been well planted, and in the grounds there is a pretty gully, which is sheltered from all the winds. If, in the future, the society finds it necessary to erect ;\a nurses' house and a mothers' house away from the main block, there are two sites adapted for these detached 1 buildings. There is ample room, also, for extending the mam building. At present tho house gets the sun from about 9.30 a.m. until sunset. In older to have the benefit of the sun soon after it rises in the winter months,.soma trees on tho east must be removed, but it is believed that the consent of the, trustees of the Convalescent Home to have this done will bo readily obtaaned. The site is above the fog line and the hard frosts—a short time ago geraniums 6ft high along the front of the house were in -flower—and the air is delightfully clear. - - The property was purchased ior £3500. As the building and the preparation of the site cost £4OOO, and as the land was valued for the trustees oi the late Colonel Richardson's estate about a year ago at £2400, it is felt that the committee has made a very good bargain. It has practically obtained a building that cost £4OOO for - £llOO. , , Before the transaction was completed, the Hon G. W. Russell, Minister oi Internal Affairs, and Dr Truby King inspected the property, and both these gentlemen expressed an opinion that it is admirably suited to the purpose for which it will be used by the committee.
