SECOND DIVISION,
THREE MONTHS' NOTICE REQUEST.
NO GUARANTEE.
[Fbom Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, September 26
Bg£tare the House rose to-nighti tha Bjagte Minister said that it had been suggested at the secret session the previous evening that the Defence Minister should make an absolute promise that a period of three months should elapse: between medical examination and Jhej'/ calling up of men of the Second Division. Mr Massey said h© though!) that the request was reasonable, but iti had to be remembered that in such, case there was always a certain number! of stragglers and the medical examination could not possibly be completed in a, day or a week, therefore it seemedj almost impossible for Sir James Allen to make th« promise suggested. „He endorsed what the Defence Ministeri had said and,he would tell the House and country that as far as possible a period of three months would be lowed to elapse between medical examination and the calling up of the Second Division.
Mr Young: Will you guarantee ai minimum period? The Prime Minister: We can only, promise to do what is possible^;
