POULTRYMEN’S FIELD DAY.
AT COMPETITION GROUNDS
Favoured by glorious weather, p.oultrymen, and pOultrywomen, too, attended in large numbers on Saturday at the New Zealand Utility. Poultry Club’s field"'" day, held at the club’s property at Papanui. The ceutro of interest, of course, was the competition ponsj. and the layers were critically examined and appraised. The gift auction in aid of the clyb funds was successfully carried out, and useful addresses were given by the Chief Poultry Expert, Mr F., Brown, and the South Island Poultry Instructor, Mr C. Cussen. The number of gifts for sale was greater than anticipated, and the auction took up such an amount of the afternoon that members of the managing committee intend_tliat in future the club’s field days shall be of an educational nature only, and. the gift auction will be held on another day at a central poultry saleyard. Mr J. B. Merrett was the auctioneer, and tlio sole resulted in about £2B being forthcoming so that the day’s takings should add about £3O to the club’s funds. The secretary and the officers of the club aro to be congratulated upon the success of the function, the first of its kind in the history of the club, and the precursor of a strenuous educational campaign.
