LYTTELTON MARINE BAND.

ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED. A very enjoyable smoko concert was held on Saturday evening in the band room, Lyttelton, on, the occasion of the unveiling of the band’s “roll of honour” in connection with the war. No fewer than seventeen members of the Marine Band are on active service. Cdlonel C- J. Cooper, officer commanding the Canterbury Coast Defence Troops, to which the band is attached, presided oyer a very large attendance, and witli him were Colonel Snow, Captains Bradley and Cowlishaw, Major Oakes, Lieutenants Anderson and Patterson, Ser-geant-Majors Cederman and Page and the Mavor and councillors of Lyttelton, The following bauds were represented: —Woolston, Tramways, Derry’s, New Brighton, Citizens’ Defence, O.Y.C. and 13th Regimental, Kaiapoi. The band, after being inspected by Colonel Cooper, played tho National Anthem, under the.baton of Lieuten-ant-Bandmaster Sullivan-

The toast of "The King” was proposed by Colonel Cooper, and it was followed by " The Army .and Navy,” proposed by Councillor Johnston and roaponded to by Colonels Copper and Snow. " The President and Vice-Presid-ents” was proposed by Bandsman Oakes, and responded to by Mr F. W. Anderson, Captain Cowlishaw, Major Oakes and Mr J. H. Collins. “ Returned and Absent Members ” was proposed ,by Mr J. H. Collins, and responded to by Mr Tikao on behalf of his son, Lieutenant Tikno, who was unable to be present. Other toasts were " The Borough Council and Fire Brigade,” "Visiting Bands,” " Sweethearts and Wives” and "The Press.”

Musical items were given by exBandsmen Anthony and Pago and Sergeant G. Wilson, Bandsmen Harball. Irvine, Bell, L. Croft, and a vocal quartette, " The Three Black Crows,” by the Marine Band Quartette Party. Mr R. S. Oliver and Bandsmen T. Hughes played the accompaniments excellently. During the evening the "roll of honour” was unveiled by Colonel Cooper, who spoke very feelingly in honour of the brave boys who wero away doing their bit, those present standing at the salute. The tablet, which is a very artistic one, was made by Mr W. H. Jewell, of Christchurch, and was greatly admired by all. The following is a list of the names of those on active service:—Bandsmen T.
