Richardson, late purser of the Maori, who came ashore last Thursday, has resigned from tho service of the Union Steam Ship Company. He was a passenger by the Maori on Saturday evening on his way to Auckland, whore he intends to spend a holiday with his family, prior to leaving for the The Storm is expected to leave Dunedin on Monday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Picton and Wanganui. . The “Gazette” advises that notice has been given to mariners that dredging operations are being carried ou't in the Buller River by the buoket dredger Erskine. The dredger is working in the fairway up-river from up-stream end of No. 5 berth of Crane Wharf. She will be hauled out clear when any vessel or vessels are working to or from the wharf in the davtime. and 1 on and after September 17 at night-time; in fair weather she will remain at her moorings about 300 ft off tho wharf. . . On September 27 a nautical inquiry will be held at Wanganui into the failure of the master of the lighter Shamrock to go to the assistance of the lighter Dorset, when the latter was in distress off the Wanganui Heads. Mr Hewitt, S.M., will presido, and tho assessors will be Cap’aiu Black, of Wellington, and Captain Wahlstrom, of Wanganui. The inquiry is the outcome of tne Court's finding in connection with tho recent foundering of the Dorset.
