FOR SOLDIERS’ SONS.
TRENTHAM SCHOLARSHIPS. When tho publication of “ Historic Trentham,” written by Will Lawson, was authorised as a record of that camp, the Camp Commandant decided that all profits would be devoted to the education of soldiers’ sons. In furtherance of this intention a scheme has now been drafted by Mr G. Hogben, cx-Inspector-General of Schools, and has been approved by Dr W. J. Anderson, LL.D., Director of Education, and Major-General Sir A. Robin. K.C.M.G., C. 8., Commandant of the Forces, who, with Colonel 11. R. Potter. C.M.U., will be tho trustees of the fund. Following are the conditions: — 1. The fund for the Trentham scholarships shall be vested in the three trustees named. 2. Tho interest of the fund shall be available for , the purpose of scholarships to bo awarded; and held on the conditions hereinafter prescribed. 3. The award of the scholarships shall be made by the trustees, and. except as herein provided, in the same manner, and the scholarships shall be held on the same conditions as the Junior and Senior National Scholarships'. The value of the scholarships shall be tho samo as the value of the Junior and Senior National Scholarships respectively. 4. The scholarships shall be awarded to those boys who stand next in order of merit to those who have obtained Junior and Senior ‘National Scholarships, being—(a) 6on;s of soldiers of N.Z.E.F. killed during the present war; (b).sons of members of N.Z.E.F. who have been on active service, or. failing a sufficient number of such candidates (c, d, and e). sons of members of the various forces of the British' Empire who lmvo served during the present war, or, failing a sufficient number of such candidates, sons of members of any New Zealand naval or military forces.
If the funds are not sufficient for the award of scholarships to all tho qualified candidates, they shall be.awarded to those boys of Class A. then thoso of Class B, C. D, B, respectively, in order of merit.
