WELLINGTON BEAT CANTERBURY. The third match in the ladies’ triangular interprovincial tournament was played at English Park- on Saturday, the opposing teams being Wellington and Canterbury. Tho weather was fine and there was a large attendance of the public. The teams were, as follow Wellington—Goal, Miss' K. Skinner; backs, Misses J. M’Ken::ic and R. Israel; halves, Misses 'l. Murphy, f. Wallace, L. Dick; forwards. Misses 8. M’Konzio, E. Geddis, E. Williams, T. Grant. N. Lang. , Canterbury—Goal, Miss T. Dobbyn: backs, Misses R. .Greig, A. Cross; halves, Mrs E. Miles, Misses P. Leslie and G. Cross; forwards, Misses L. Hanhain, E. Ritchie, G. Barr, M. Pearco and V. Rossiter, Canterbury carried tlic bullv, but the Wellington centre-half saved. Miss Geddis put in a good run up the wing, but overran the, ball, and Miss R. 'Gro.ig saved well, and set the Rted Etui Black forwards going up the field. Overeagerness, however, lost tho chance in the circle. Play; hovered in tho Wellington circle for a spell, .but poor shooting. spoilt Canterbury chances,and a twenty-five was tho only result. From the bully-off" Wellington took charge, but Miss R. Israel saved wfoll. CanterbuYv s'eettrtfd from a throw-in, and Miss G, Barr , had a .chance, but Miss Skinner saved well. Miss 8. M’Kenzie headed a line run for Wellington, and centred well, but Miss 'Dphbyn conceded a corner. . A breach against Canterbury-gave Wellington a chance, but offside play spoilt a good chance, and Canterbury took charge. Wellington put in a rush,, but obstruction spoilt tho chance, and Miss Hanliam headed a Canterbury rush, which was stopped by Miss J. M’Konzie.. Miss S. M’Kenzio then headed a rush and. passed to Miss Williams, who took the ball into the circle and shot but . Miss Dobbyn saved well and conceded a corner. Wellington kept up the attack, and a combined rush ended in Miss N. Lang scoring with a beautiful shot. Wellington 1, Canterbury 0. Canterbury secured from the bully, but Miss Iv. Skinner saved well, and a Wellington rush saw play down in the Canterbury twenty-five, and a corner resulted. Wellington kept on the attack and gave the Red and Black goalkeeper plenty of work, several corners being conceded in quick succession. Wellington set up a fine rush down the right wing and , Miss Dobbyn was severely taxed, but wild shooting lost a certain goal. Miss Ilanham put in a fine run for Canterbury, bub Miss R. Israel saved well, and from the penalty corner Wellington took charge, and from a gcod.rusn Miss Williams scored a line goal. Wellington 2, Canterbury 0. Canterbury put in a rush from tho bully and” Miss V. Rossiter, centring well, gave Miss Barr a chance, but the shot Was well stopped by Miss Skinner hitting out. Half-time sounded shortly after with play in midfield. Wellington put in an early rush down to the Canterbury circle early in the second spell, and Miss Dobbyn had to concede a corner. From the bit out Canterbury woke up, but the effort was short-lived, and tho Wellington backs transferred play back. Canterbury came again, aiid a nice pass to thoi left wing saw a good rush into tho Yellow circle, but only a penalty was the result, and Wellington took the ball up the fiel l, Miss Wallace playing a fine game at centre-half. Canterbury attacked strongly, and a shot by Miss Barr was well saved. Wellington put in a good rush up the right wing, and a penalty for obstruction outside tbe circle was well stopped by Miss Dobbyn, who also stopped, a second shot from the corner. Canterbury put in a combined rush, and Miss Rossiter took the ball into the circle, and shot, but Miss J. M'Kenzie saved weli. From the hit out- Wellington made a strong attack, and an almost certain goal was stopped by Miss T. Dobbyn brilliantly. A Canterbury combined attack was spoilt by Miss Barr overrunning the ball, and hi scramble in the circle ended in Miss Skinner saving well. Miss G. Barr put in a fine solo run, but made the mistake of passing, and a twenty-five was tbe only result. Up-and-down play followed until Canterbury put in a rush headed by M. Pearce, but Miss R. Israel bit out, and Wellington made a combined attack. which was onlv spoilt by offside. A spell of fast up-and-down play followed, both sets of forwards putting in some good rushes, the Wellington team showing superiority in this department, and having the greater number of shots, but Miss T. Dobbyn well. Finally a. good rush by Miss V. saw the first goal netted for Canterbury by the speedy left wing. Wellington 2, Canterbury 1. Shortly after the bully, Mrs E. Miles suffered as the result of a collision, which stopped tho game for a brief spell. On resuming, Canterbury attacked strongly, but the Wellington backs bustled hard, end a shot bv Miss G. Barr went wide. The Red and Blacks made strenuous efforts to equalise tho score, but the Wellington defence was sound, and the game ended in a .win for Wellington by two goals to one. Messrs J{. Mogridge and W. Simpson were the referees.
