JACKSON SENTENCED
[Pes Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August a 6. . After a two days' trial at Palmerston North George Jackson was found guilty of the manslaughter of his sou, Thomas, at Raumai on Juno 20..
Accused made the following statement: —"I did not intend to wound Tom. I saw that a "row was coming, and thought the knife i.would frighten him. i did not know I liad struck him. I loved my boy." Ho was sentenced to sis years' imprisonment with hard labour.
A Press Association message received on June 30 said:—A tragedy occurred at Raumai, between Ashhursfc and Po« hangina, yesterday. _ A farmer named George Jackson, residing with his wife and family, attacked his oighteen-year-old son, Thomas, with a knife. The quarrel arose in the house at dinner, and it is alleged that/ Jackson soized a knife and stabbed his sou. Realising what ho had done, Jackson saddled a horse and galloped to Ashhurst for medical assistance, which he procured.
