BOARD OF TRADE.
SITTINGS IN CHRISTCHURCH
The- Board of Trade opened a sitting in Christchurch yesterday afc the Departmental Buildings, Vorcester StreetMr W. G. M'Donald, acting-chairman, was joined by tho other two members of tho board, Messrs J. R. Hart and P. Hally, and the secretary, Mr J. W. Collins.
Tlie board discussed with the. Mayor a proposal to open a municipal meat depot, and later interviewed leading master butchers as to ruling prices of meat—wholesale and retail. Further evidence will.he taken to-morrow.
It is understood that the board has no objection to allowing the local butchers the privilege of drawing their supplies from tho Imperial stores of meat held in the freezing works proyided'the retail prices to be charged to consumers are deemed reasonable by tho board.
After completing tho taJsins of evidence the board will discuss the matter further with tho Mayor and representatives of tho City Council. To-day the board will meet a committee of South Island flour millers to discuss questions relating to wheat, flour, bran and pollard prices.
