* THE FUNERAL.

Tho funeral of the late Mr George Hawkes Whitcombe, who was head of tho well known firm of Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs, took place yesterday jßorning at the Linwood Cemetery. *Tho esteem in which Mr Whitcombo was held was evidenced, in the large attendance of citizens, friends and employees of the firm. The services at the graveside were conducted by Archdeacon Gossct. The chief mourners were Mr W. E. Whitcombe (brother) and four of Mr Whiteombe's eight sons ("tho other four being absent on war service), Messrs B. E. 11. Whitcombe, Stanley Whitcombe, Louis Whitcombe and Basil Whitcombe.

Tho pall-bearers were Messrs D. Nicholson, E. V. Chaffey, 11. Baker, A. W. Shrimpton, H. Haydon and H. Burgess (of the local staff of the firm). Tho Wellington. Dunedin and other branches of the firm were represented by Messrs B. P. Gully. A. Cameron and P. Duff.

The directors of the firm were represented by Messrs E. Cuthbcrt (chairman), B. H. Burns and F. M. Warren.

Tho New Zealand Master Printers' Association of Employers was represented by Mr J. Gamble and Mr W. P. Sopor, and the Christchurch Master Printers' Union of Employers bv Mr F. E. Hyman and Mr Robert Bell," Ashburton.

Among old friends, citizens, representatives of various organisations and employees of the firm, present were: Dr Courtney Ncdwiil, Dr flight and Messrs F. Whitcombo (cousin), T. L. Tombs, T. S.
