ME E. CUTHBERT’S REPORT
COST ESTIMATED AT £92,000. At lasi- evening's meeting of the Spreydon Borough Council, an estimate was read from Mr E. Cuthberfc, engineer to the Christchurch Drainage Board, as to the cost of a complete sewage system for Spreydon. He wroto that he was estimating for one pumping station, but two or three might bo wanted. The estimate was as follows: £ Sewers, 19. S miles at £ISOO . , - 23,400 15in C.I. rising main .... 61,000 Machinery for pumping .... 1,500 Additions toi septic tank . . . 3,000 Preparation land at farm . ... 4, 000 Contingencies B jsoo £95,000 The annual charges would be as follow: „ £ Interest and sinking fund . .. - 5950 Maintenance . . . • > . 'OO £GSSO The capital ratable value of the district is £585,000, and the annual rate would be 2.75 d in the pound. Mr Cuthbert added that were it within Ills power to provide a scheme for Spreydon without reference to anybody, he would be inclined to provide a sewage farm in tile southern portion of the borough if laud were available, which would serve Spreydon, Riccartou and Fendalton. That, would considerably diminish the cost. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Wmsor) said that the estimated cost was something of a startler. The scheme was beyonr, their means at present. . The idea or running a sewage farm in south-west Spreydon for Riccarton and Fondat ton was out of the question. (Hear, hear.) , . , The estimate was received.
