HOTEL HOURS.
AN AUCKLAND RESOLUTION.

AUCKLAND, July 9,
A crowded meeting at the Town Hall to-night, by a huge majority, carried the following resolution“ That this meeting of ihe citizens of Auckland is of opinion that in order to ensuro an early and' successful issue to the war it has become a national necessity to secure tho maximum of fficiency in military, commercial, industrial and social affairs, and also to reduce unnecessary expenditure to a minimum, and being convinced that the restrictions of tho hours for the salo of intoxicating liquors would assist in these directions urgently requests the Government to secure at tho earliest opportunity the necessary legislative authority to reduce the time during which alcohol may be sold to between eight o'clock a.m. and six o’clock p.m.”
A deputation was set up to interview Cabinet at Wellington iu furtherance of the matter.
BILL TO BE INTRODUCED
[Per Press Association.] PUKEKOHE, July 9.
Mr J. E. Taylor, a member of a deputation which waited upon Mr Massey to-night in regal'd to six o’clock closing, asked that he should, as member for Franklin, state his attitude on the subject. Mr Massey replied that he was not only member for Franklin hut also was Prime Minister, and ho could not commit Cabinet. It would be wrong and unconstitutional to do' so. He stated that a Bill dealing with the question of lintel hours would be introduced at an early stage of the session.
