MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. Messrs 0. H. Gilby, J.P., and J. H. Seager, J.P., presided at the Magistrate's Courfc yesterday. . On a charge of drunkenness Patrick, O'Connor, who had been on remand for a week, was convicted and discharged. , , James Roderick Ayres was charged' cvith the theft of a bicycle, valued at £3 10s, the property of Harold Alexander Marshall. Mr Thomas who appeared on behalf of Mr Cassidv. appbe'' for a remand until Friday. The apphca+;on was granted. •Vrthur Brown and Robert Bruce, charged with failing to notify change of address as required by section 4o or the Military Service Act, were convicted and ordered to pay costs. John Margin, charged with allowing cattle to wander in the public street, was ordered to pay costs. LYTTELTON. Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., presided at T,vttelton Magistrate's Court. He was fined £l. - _ _ A charge against Peter Brown Carmichael, licensee of the Royal Hotel (Mr Cassidy), of permitting drunkeniie's on his premises, was d.smissed, the Magistrate stating that there was not sufficient evidence to convict. Samuel Brooking (Mr Hunt) was «harged that on June 14, he, being the licensee of the Saxon Hotel, refused to supply a traveller, Agnes Clark, with Accommodation. Defendant was fined £5 and costs. For breaches of prohibition orders Joseph Foreman was fined 20s, James Bryant 10s and costs and Robert John Boyd (three breaches) 40s and costs. Joseph Reginald Harding for three breaches was fined 10s and 20s and was convicted and discharged on the third charge. John Bailey for one breach was fined 20s and costs, Anthony Malaquist 10s and costs, John May 10s and costs, William Patrick Loader (two charges) 10s on each charge and Ernesto Demichelli (two charges) 10s and 20s with costs. On a similar charge Elizabeth Buckmaster was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. The Magistrate warned accused that if she appearc before him again he would send her to Pakatoa. . The Inspector of Factories proceeded against James Bundy, butcher, for opening his shop and employing an assistant beforo 6 a.m. The defendant, who did not appear, was fined £5 and ordered to pay witnesses' expenses.
