Mrs George Burford, of 15, Dickens Street, Addington, has received t. cablegram stating that her brother, S- r geant Hngli Mackenzie, is dangoroiiv.j ill with ’bronchial pneumonia in tin General Hospital. Calais. Mrs P. Lvsaght. Fairton, Ashburton, has received word that her son, Corporal D. Lvsaght, is returning to New Zealand. Corporal Lysaght, who left with the Thirteenth Reinforcements, ‘s suffering with trench fever. Mr John Higgins, of Waiati, has received cable advice that his son, Pri.vnto William Higgins, has been killed in action. Private Higgins was born in Kainpoi and was educated there. He was of sturdy build and his fine physique stood him in good stead in football, swimming, hockey nnd other sports. Following in the footsteps of his father, who served over twenty-five years in the Kaiapoi Fire Brigade, Private Higgins was a keen fireman, excelling in competition work and holding the Citizens’ Cup since its presentation to the brigade three years ago.
