GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE POSSIBLE. By Teleeraph—Press Association— Copyright. .'Received February o, 5.5 p.m.)_ SYDNEY, February a. Mr Beebv, discussing the industrial position with the Newcastle Labour Council, strongly condemned the tendency of younger membeis of un:«m«, without responsibilities, abs-oiituifi themselves from meetings, thereby allowing those of anarchic tendencies, to get control. Many union* were fearing the management in the hands of tne. noisy minority. If this continued an amendment Ho the Trades" Union Act irvalidating all decision- and ballots unless carried by a certain proportion ot tho members, would be inevitable, niid l.he State must in many other ways step in to control unionism unless evidence was forthcoming of the determination ot tiic majority of the unonUts to help the Government to maintain the arbitration system. An amendment to the law w.inid probably be in the direction r.f the limitaUion oi tho system of fixing the bate minimum wages. He urged the pressing necessity or unionists realising the financial and economic effects of the war and the need for continuity of work in all branches of industry.
