The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated London, January 27, trom the High Commissioner: — Meat.—The market continues firm for all descriptions. Supplies are email. Prices are higher for Argentine mutton and lamb. Jvew Zealand and Australian mutton,'per lb, ewe mutton, BJd; Argentine mutton, heavy-' weight OJd, light-weight 10d; New Zealand ana Australian lamb, lOd; Argentine Jdrno, heavy-weight IOJd, light-weight lid. New Zealand beef, no supplies available; New Zealand boneless beef, 9Jd; Argentine beef, hindquarters 11 9-l6d, forequarters 9£d. Butter.—The market has a weaker tone eince last report, and prices are irregular. Danish, per cwt, 218 s to 2205; New Zealand, salted lbo3 to 1945, unsalted 192 s to 1965, good to fine quality salted 186 sto 18Ss; Australian, salted 186 s to 190 a. unsalted- 186 a to 1925; Dutch creamery salted. 192 stc 1965; Argentine, salted. 184 s to 186 s. unealted 186 s to 188 s. Cheese.—The market continues firm, and the advance in prices is maintained. The demand is in excess of supply. Canadian stocks are light. White, 140 sto 1465; coloured, 140 s to 1465; Dutch. Cheddar, 138 s to 140 s; English Cheddar, 148 s to 1525; States flats, white 140 s to 1425, coloured 140 s tc 1425. Hemp—The market is quiet but fiim, Owing to the absence of sellers, buyers are awaiting further developments. Quotations are nominal. January to March shipment, good fair New Zealand hemp, per ton, £6O; fair, £SB; Government graded fair Manila, £62; coarser, £59. The output of hemp at Manila for the week ended last Saturday was 20,000 bales. • ' Wheat.—The markeMs quiet btrt steady* Australian afloat, nomlnafcy 82s. . The Government regulations restricting the beer output are affecting business. The Board of Trade informed me that they will not grant licenses during the coming season. to import hops from British Dominions.
