The diedgc will be fitted up with the latest pumping machinery, and will be driven by electricity. It is understood that the. vessel will, operate on the Heathcote River. WARRIMOO REALISES £58.000. It transpires that-the steamer Warrimoo which was built at Newcastle m 1892 by Messrs C. S. Swan and Hunter, and was owned by the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited, was sold- to a Chinese firm in the Straits Settlements for £58,000. The vessel, which was registered at Dunedin, is of 3528 gross and 207 b net tons. THE TEACHING OP RUSSIAN. ' At a meeting of the Council' of the Hull Chamber of Commerce and Shipping recently, the president announced that Captain barnman, a local shipowner, had promised a gift of £IO,OOO to form an endowment fund for the teaching of the Russian language to Hull students. Captain Samman stated he was greatly impressed with the possibilities of a, great trade in the future between Hull and Russia. SHIPPING NOTES. Owing to the heavy sea at Kaikoura yesterday, the Cygnet was compelled to postpone her trip north. In all probability she will get away to : day. After being out of commission for some time, tho John Anderson will resume running to-dav. her destination being Akaroa.
