SUMNER GALA.
MEETING- OF RESIDENTS. A meeting of Sumner residents was held in the Council Chambers last evening, to consider the question of holding the annual gala. The Mayor, Mr J. B. Lauremon, presided over a good attendance of representatives of the local bodies. Mr Buttle, the chairman of the Burgesses'. Association, apologised for the action of the association in regard to the gala, and stated that the association had been under the misapprehension that the meeting which was to have been/" held the previous evening, to consider matters regarding the gala, had lapsed on account of lack of port of residents of the borough. • The chairman said that although the people of Sumner were not as industrious as they might be in regard to such matters, he firmly believed that jf'\they combined and worked energetically, the gala would be equally as successful as in previous years. The residents certainly had many calls during theo'ctu') but they would support the committee, and give every possible assistance. V . i On the motion of Mr J. Carter, seconded by Mr T. E. Whitfield, the date of the gala was fixed for February 24. Mr W. S. Heyes was appointed'honorary secretary, Mr H. F. Roberts assistant honorary secretary, and Mr 0. Dash honorary treasurer. Officers were elected as follow: President, the Mayor (Mr J. B. Laur--enson); vice-president, Mr T. E. Whitfield; committee, Messrs A. C. Wilson, E. Hi Li Brown, J. Harvey. H. F. Roberts, C. Benjamin, G. E. Blazoy, J. Carter, W. Lawsoii, A. Masters, H, O. Jamieson, G. W. C. Smithsou, C. Dash, I>. Marquctt, R. Howe, H. -Buttle, F. N. Adams, W. 1. Raphael and J. 0. Holmes. •■ - , : • It was decided that half the proceeds should be allotted to the local branch of the Red Cross Society, and the remainder should be divided equally between the local 'branch of the LadyLiverpool Duiid and the Men's Bandage Committee. The following were appointed a subcommittee, -'to report to the general committee at a subsequent meeting:— Messrs J. B. Laurcnson T E. Whitfield, W. S. Heyes, H. F. Roberts, 0. Dash and .)• Harvey.
