OPAWA SCHOOL.

ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED. The unveiling ceremony of the roll of honour of old boys oi the Opawa School was held in the school playground on Saturday afternoon, the chairman, Mr R. H. Turner, presiding. There was a large gathering of pupils and adults. Before proceedings commenced, the chairman read a telegram of apology from the Hon J. A. Hanan, Minister of Education, who was unavoidably aosent on account' of important business matters. Apologies for absence were also, received fsoni Mr "O. H. Opie, chairman of the Education Board, and ethers interested in the school, The chairman referred to the great) sacrifices that the soldiers were xmaking in the war. He was sorry to *ay that the - end was not yet in svim Opawa, as well as other parts of vhe Empire, had sent forward many bravo men, and some had earned distinction. It must be remembered, however, that there were hundreds of brave men who had'accomplished great deeds for which they would receive no recognition. The speaker made reference to the great work which was being carried out by the women of the Empire. He then asked Mr J. Jamieson to unveil the roll of honour. Mr Jamieson said he considered it an honour to be present to assist in the unveiling ceremony. The boys who had gone had honoured that school. All hearts went out to the relatives of those who had made the supreme sacrifice. He hoped that the war would not last very, long, but they could rest assured that when peace came it would he peace with.honour.. (Applause.) Mr Jamieson then unveiled the roll of honour, and the general salute was plaved by the buglers. Mr H. O. Lane, secretary of the Board of Education, expressed pleasure at being present. He said that every school should have a roll of honour so that in future years the pupils would ho able to seo what part their fathers had played in this great war. He hoped that many of the boys would te spared to come back. (Applause.) Mr Ollec, head master, said they very much appreciated the roll which had been presented to the school. Ho road a letter from an old boy who was at present in Samoa, wishing the school everv success.
