TAXATION PROPOSALS. BRISBANE, November 17. The Legislative Council carried an amendment against the Government’s proposal for tho abolition of the Upper House by 19 votes to 3. The Government’s new taxation proposals are for Is 6d in the £ on the assessable incomes of foreign banking and insurance companies as from the end Of last December. A Bill was introduced disqualifying from membership of Parliament persons acting as directors, attorneys or solicitors for any monopoly or alien.
