An enthusiastic meeting of residents oj the Beckenham district was held on. lue«e day evening at Mr Chegvin’s house, in Fishes 1 Street, when the terms on winch the Citv Council were prepared to let a portion of the old riverbed in Western Terrace to J* laid down as a bowling green, were disThe> terms were considered very favourable, and it was agreed to write to the council accepting them. ■ It was decided that a ciuh should be formed. to bo called the Beckenham Bowling Club. A number of gentlemen in the district have already come forward with donations and other forms of assistance, and tbo success of tho club is practically assured. A working committse of five members has .been apnointed to superintend tiic clearing " of file ground, and it is hoped to have everything in preparation for sewing grasa seed bv March of nest year. ELLESMERE ASSOCIATION." A meeting of the executive of the Ell** ...; mere Bowling Association, hei»l at Leestefi, was presided over bv the vioe-nresidant. Mr A. T R-obertson. 'The three district clubs, Leeston, Southbridge and Dunsandel, wer* represented. The patron, Mr J. Boag, wrote stating that he would give a. trophy for the annual tournament, the trophy to be held by the winner for one year. The offer was accepted, and -the secretary iMr Power) was directed to write thanking Mr Boag.
