RED CROSS WORK.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.

Tho Executive Committee of the Red Cross Branch of the St John Ambulance Association met at the association's rooms yesterday afternoon; present—Mr A. E. G. Rhodes (chairman), Dr Mickle, , Dean Oarrington, and Messrß H. Holland, H. M. .Reeves, J. A. Flesher and M. G. Greason. Lieutonant-Oolonel Moorhouse wrote stating that ten motor ambulances were required from New Zealand by headquarters. The New Zealand War Contingent Association had promised two, and each of the four districts in Now Zealand was expected to provide two. Tho estimated cost of eacn ambulance was about £950.

It was reported by the secretary that the Christcliurch Sales Depot had already promised £6OO. He had written to the sub-centres asking if they could undertake to raiso a proportionate part of the additional £I3OO required. The chairman and Messrs Fieeher and Bowker were appointed a sub-commit-tee in connection with the matter.

The question of insurance of goods in transit, other than on transports, was referred to the Finance Committee for consideration. ' Lieutenanfc-Coloned Moorhouse wrote suggesting that the Rod Cross Branch should undertake the visitation of soldiers in civil and military hospitals iti New Zealand, and suggested that an expenditure of £IOO a month should be sufficient to provide comforts, ' The ■ secretary reported that the Ladies' Executive had undertaken this work, and had voted £2 a week . for Christcliurch Hospital. The chairman added that the matter of a hospital comforts fund had been brought under the notice of all subcentres. Tho letter was referred to the ladies' executive.

Dr Eleanor Baker wrcrbo forwarding a patent bandage roller, and emphasising the necessity for keeping up the supply of bandages. The New Zealand wounded alone required 36,000 bandages a day, as the basis of estimate was six bandages a day per bed, and there were 6000 wounded. Bandages were used once and then thrown away. They were seldom, if ever, washed and re-used.

It was decided to thank Dr Baker for her gift, and to state that the executive was in communication with headquarters on the subject of banQ 51 (708 Tho "Our Day" Fund Committee wrote stating that it had decided, subject to the executive's approval, to forward tho funds collected to the Now Zealand Red Cross Commissioner in London, for transmission to the British Red Cross Branch. The action of the committee waa approved.

The "Our Day " Fund Committee recommended further tliat the next general appeal on behalf of Red Cross funds should not bo earlier than February next. It was decided to make inquiries concerning a suitable date.
