COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIBEWA. TheWairewa Coiinty Council met on Tuesday; present—Messrs J. F. Buchanan (chairman), J. C. C. Gebbie, T. Thompson and J. V. Chapman. Tenders for tho position of cattle ranger were received as follow:—P. M. Marsh, £lB os; W. Tini, £26; Gray Skipper, J?3O. P. M. Marsh's • tender was acceptedThe chairmen of the Mount Herbert County Council and Pigeon Bay Road Board wrote, recommending a steel grader. It was resolved that a trial of the machine should, be asked for, and if satisfactory that it should be retained. The Upper AVangachu Road Board wrote, in regard to an association to insure under the Employers' Liability Act. It was resolved that the information asked for should be supplied. Tho Canterbury College wrote, regarding trie lease of 20 acres, E.R. 159, stating that the lease is in course of preparation. Mr Wedderspoon wrote, offering his services for reticulation work m the . county. It was decided to reply that the work was already lot. The Akaroa County Council wrote., granting permission to use broken metal from Hill Top. ( The Mayor of Christchiirch wrote, asking that urgent steps should be taken to obtain recruits, and offering •to send speakers or concert parties if necessary. The Akaroa Borough Council wrote, asking for a free permit through tho county for a traction engine, to haul an electrical plant for the use of tho Borough Council. It was resolved that tho permission should be granted. An application by Mr C. B. Webster for pemiia-i sion to insert pipes through the ; road at Puaka was granlcd. Mr Ghild:s, builder, reported oil the condition of the blacksmith's house at Gebbie's Valley, and gave details of necessary repairs, estimated at JESO 18s 6d, and stating that the building, if so repaired, would bo good for fifteen years. Mr Gebbie said that ho intended to present a petition that a special order might be made by thf! council to raise funds for tho erection of a now cottage. The council decided that the question of repairs should be postponed to «. future, occasion. Mr Feather gave notico to move at the nest meeting that the funds from each riding after paying its shajre of the expenses incidental therein, should' be expended on such riding. Relative to a supply of water to tho horse paddock it was resolved that the work of having this work done ..should be attended to by Mr Thompson and tho clerk as soon as possible'. Accounts amounting to £l6O 13s 9d were passed for payment.
