THE METROPOLITAN MARKET. YESTERDAY'S SALE. Thoro was a smaller i»ttendance of buyers at the Addington stock sale yesterday, and the yarding was also below the average in numbers. Beef was in shorter supply and showed an advance in prioe. Fat sheep, of whioh there woro but' eight races, opened to keen competition and good prices. Store cattle oame forward in exceptionally big numbers, and the dairy cattle pons contained cows of good average quality. 1 FAT CATTLE. Tho yardinp of fat oattla was smaller than the average, the number penned being 231, compared with 295 last wcok. Quality was fair, some well finished linos bringing good prices. DAIRY .COWS, Tliere. was a moderate yarding of dairy cows. The demand was keen for good sorts, which made £lO to £ls 10s, and others £3. 10s to £9 10s. v ' Store pigs were in good supply, and the demand was again keen. Weaners and small stores were slightly easier than of late. The range of prices was as follow: Largo stores, £3s to 58s. Medium stores, 46s to 625. Small stores, 25s to 355. Weaners, 14s to 20s, and up to 24s for best sorts. STORE CATTLE. Thero was an exceptionally largo entry of store cattle, there being im overflow into the dairy cow pens. A feature of the yarding was a large line of three and four-year-old steers, and there, were come good lines ot yearlings tnd fifteen-months-old cattle. The remainder mostly consisted of muted lets and dry cowb. ' The range of prices was as follows: Yearlings, £2 Is to £2 7s 6d. Fifteen to eighteen-months-old £3 15a to £4 7s 6d. Two-year-old steers, £5 7s 6d to £5 165.. Two and a half year-o!d steers to £7 10s. Three-year-old steers, £9 17s 6d. - Three and four-year-old steers £ll' to £l2 17s 6d. Two-year-old heifers, £4 15s to £4 17s 64. Three-year-old heifers, £6 6s to £7 103. VEALERS. There was an average ontry of vealers, and a lesser proportion of largo sorts. There was a good demund, small sorts selling at 10s to 20s, good .-eslers 25s to £4 12s 6d, and larger up to £6. FAT LAMBS. There were thirty-five fat lambs penned, and they were of prime quality. Juajicg Ly tho new season's lambs that have come forward; and confirmed by reports from farmers, tie lambs ore doing muck better than during the previous two seasons or more. The 1 ewes oame through tho winter well, and tho lambs are consequently well nourished and are thriving well on the spring feed. There was a good demand, and prices ranged from 28s to 34s for tho best, and 20s to 27s for lighter.' The sales wore:—For E. G. Wright (Uunsandoi), 11 at 28s to S4s; W. H. Johnston (Rolleston), 2 at GCs 8d; J. Bailey (Templeton),. 5 at 20s to 22» 6d, FAT SHEEP. There was again a small yarding of fat shcop, there being barely eight races. The quality was a go.xl average, and thero wore several pens of shorn sheep. The market opened well, with prices from a shilling to oighteenpence a head in advance of last Wednesday's, but as buyers' wont* were satisfied tho bidding was leB« onimated, and prices receded. Closing rates showed a little advance on those of the previous week. The range of prices was: Extra prime weihers to 46s 6d. Prime Wethers 32s 6d to 42s 6d. Others 29s to S2s. Shorn wethers 20s lOd, to 28s. Prime merino wethers 23s Id to 37s 94. Prime ewes 32s 4d to 375. Others 24s 9d to 295. Hoggets 22s 6d to 29a.

Thero was an average entry of store sheep, loss, of course, than last week's yarding, which was heavy. The greater proportion of tJie yarding, which was of good quality throughojt, comprised wethers. The market was deoidedly firmer, and passings wera light. The range of prices was as follow: — Wether hoggets, 245. Four and six-tooth wethers, 29s lOd to 82s 3d. / • " Two and four-tooth wethers, 28s to 28s 9d. Two, four, sk and eight-tooth wethers, 29s 4d to 82s. Merino wethers, 14s 6d. Two and four-tooth ewes and lambs (all counted), 19s 9d. Sound-mouthed ewes and lambs (all counted), 18s 7d. Merino ewes, 7s Bd. " Heavy baconers, £4 15s to £5. Light baconers, £3 15s to £4 10s. Price per lb, 7Jd to 7jd. Heavy porkers, 55s to 60s. Light porkeTs, 48s to 545. Price per lb, Bfcd to 9d. Store pigs were in good supply, and the demand was aspain keen. Weaners and small stores wore slightly easier than of late. The range of prices was as follow: Large stores, 53s to 68s.

Medium stores, 46s to 525. Small stores, 25s to 355. Weaners, 14s to 20s, and up to 24s for best sorts.
