The War Office, ranoiiim* from Salonika, reports that the Bulgarians on Monday counter-attacked with throe battalions against our new positions on the east bank of tho Struma. Our fire broke the attack, and one of our battalions then charged with the bayoncr and completely routed tho enemy. The Royal Flying Corps successful!? bombed troops and transport on th> Prosenik railway, and a train Prosenik and Seros.

BULGARS RETIRING FROM KAJMACKALAN.

The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, October 4.

alan, the Bulgarians abandoned their positions on the Starkovgres Hirer at Brod and appear to be retreating northwards. The Sorbs have occupied Sovio and the French have taken Petorao and Vrbeni. On the right wing the British have captured Janikoii, east of the Struma.

GERMAN CLAIMS. PROGRESS ON EASTERN FRONT. AMSTERDAM, October 3. A German communique says:— Wo progressed against tho English north-west of Tahinos Lake. CROSSING THE STRUMA. THE BRITISH ADVANCE. (Received October 4, 6.25 p.m.) LONDON, October 3. Mr Ward Price reports from Salonika on Saturday : —The British crossed the Struma in strong force. Their immediate objectives were tho twin villages Karadjabala and Karadjazir. The first was surprised and was captured in two hours with few casualties, but tho other required a furious assault. Our success was followed by a series of desperate counter-attaoks. "We captured 300 and there were killed or wounded 2000 of the enemy. The Britishers went into action carrying 220 rounds of ammunition, two days’ rations and pick and shovel. The most difficult task was to cross a mile of shell-pounded country between the two villages, as the troops were enfiladed on both sides by machine-guns. The Bulgarians in the trenches fired desperately until the attackers were upon them. Then they flung down their rifles and scrambled on to the parapets and mot tho attackers with raised hands. Tho Britishers dashed through tho burning villages and seized the trenches beyond, where they beat ofi counter-attacks for two days. IN EPIRUS. ITALIANS OCOUBY TOWNS. (Received October 4, 9.20 p.m.) ATHENS, October 4. Tho Italians have occupied Santi Guaranta, Delvino and Argyrocastro. TURKS AMD GERMANS. A COMMERCIAL AGREEMENT.
