RUSSIAN ADVANCE. MANY MORE PRISONERS. Australian and N.Z. Cabl# Aasoeialion. LONDON, October 3. A Russian communique says:—Our fire drove back dense columns of Germans attempting an advance beyond their entanglements eastward of Novo Alexandrovsk, and frustrated a midnight attack in the Pinsk-Logashin 0» tashin sector. There was stubborn fighting at Zatorce and Szelwon, and we captured some positions against strong resistance. Stubborn battles continue on the Zlota Lipft. Our five stopped a coun-ter-attack on the river Narovka, and the enemy brought up reserves, which Buffered severely. Fierce fighting is proceeding. The prisoners taken in this region on Monday were 1000, and the total for fcho three battles hero since September 30 is over 5000, of whom. 600 are Germans. BRUSSILOFF MAKING HEADWAY. United Service. (Received October 4, 11.20 p.m.) LONDON, October 4. There is heavy fighting on the wholo Russian front from the Piusk marshes to Rumania. General Brussiloff apparently has resumed the general offensive, clearly aiming at Lemberg, and is making steady headway. THE ENEMY’S VERSION. FIGHTING IN GALICIA. AMSTERDAM, October 3. A German communique says:— The Russians west of Lutsk violently attacked twelve times, and their guards seventeen times, but all failed with heavy losses. Our success north of Graberka was extended. Prisoners taken number 2600.
Tho Russians attacking on the east bank of the Zlota Lipa captured Lysonia Height, which we recaptured.
