CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. The Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met last night, present—Messrs F. T. Evans (President), C. Evans, A. E. Byrne, A. Dcy, R, W. Britton, S. F. Wilson, C. Buchanan, F. D. Kesteven, W. B. Fuller, A. McPhail, and G. Dobbs. On the President's' motion the committee resolved:—"This committee learns with dpep sorrow of the death of so many brave New Zealanders in tho recent heavy fighting, and desires to extendi its heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing'.'relatives, and especially to the families of the late Lieutenant it. G. Hickmott and Corporal T. L. Derrett, who were intimately connected with our sport, and who at the outset of their career have been called upon to make tho supreme sacrifice for King and Country." Mr Evans said that while ond could only admiro tho great bravery and success of the AUies, tho great push had taken heavy toll of tho finest of the Do? minion's young fellows, and more particularly those connected with sport, yet the union could only extend its sympathy to all tho bereaved, and to the relatives of those who were wounded.
The President reported that the Corbett Beneat Committee had handed the funds to trustees for distribution to Mrs Corbett. The result had been entirely satisfactory, and tho thanks of the union were due to all subscribers. It was agreed to donate tho advertising costs, £3 8s 3d, to . the fund. Mr Dobbs on behalf of tho Marists' Club and Mrs Ccrbett thanked the committee for its co-operation. The President moved that a committee consisting of Messrs Wilson, McFhail, McCully, Dey, and the mover should be eel up to consider tho scope and. conditions of next season's competitions, and submit recommendations for the improvement of tho game generally. He said that the military age had been altered, and it would be as well to meet in January or February to consider the whole matter. The motion was carried. Tho secretary (Mr C. \V. Hervey) declared a credit bnlanco on the soven-a-eide tournament of over £ls. The President thanked tho members of subcommittees for their services during a trying season, and tho members of tlie committee for their support. He thought that Rugby should extend its dominions in tho schools, and representation might bo given on the committee to the Schools' Athletio Association. There were hundreds of lads in the secondary schools waiting for a game. CANTERBURY FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. Tho management committee of the Canterbury Football Association met last night. The President (Mr R. English) was in tho chair, and thero was a fair attendance. The United Club wrote protesting against tho match against St. Bedes being awarded to St. Bedes, on tihe grounds that tho game was not a friendly match, and that St. Beacs played an unfinaneial member in the game. It was ruled that the game was a League match. In regard to the position of the piarer mentioned it was resolved to refer the mattct to tho Match Committee to consider and report at next meeting. The United Club also protested against the second and deciding goal being awarded the Rangers' Club m i'ho match against that club an it was stated to be an ou-side goal. Tho match was referred to the Match Committee. The Finance Committees report recommended payment of accounts amounting to JSJ2 12s 4d. The report was adopted. It was decided to send letters of thanks to all those who had billeted tho Otago boys during their recent visit to Christchurch, and also to the matron and staff of the Sumner Institute for entertaining tho boys during their visit io Sumner.
