PROTEST BY SHEEPOWNERS' UNION.

At a meeting of the General Committee of the Canterbury Sheepowners' Union held yesterday, the question of the retention of tho Addington saleyards, which occupies the position of the chief metropolitan live stock market in the Dominion, was discussed, and the following resolution' was passed unanimously:—"That the Canterbury ShecpownerV Union protests against any local body having the power to make by-laws which interfere with the continuance of Addington as the premier metropolitan stock market for New Zealand, and urges the taking of immediate steps to contest the legality of the by-law recently passed by tho Riccarton Borough Council prohibiting the travelling of stock upon any road of tho borough within reasonable hours."
