DEVOIN MURDER CHARGE.

ACCUSED CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 2. The trial of Allred Charles Jewell Dovoin, charged with tho murder of Louisa White in the Nairn Street Reserve on May 14, was heard at the Supreme Court to-day.

On being asked to plead, accused said: “ I tried to kill myself. I did not fire at her. I loved hoi'.” The question was twice repeated, and the same answer was given. Mr Justice Chapman then ordered a plea of not, guilty to be entered. After a four hours’ retirement the jury returned a verdict of guilty of manslaughter and recommended that tho maximum penalty for manslaughter should ho imposed. Sentence was deferred until Wednesday..
