BECRENHAM-FISHERTON RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the residents in the Fishcrton and Beckenham districts was held in Peek's Hall on Saturday night. Mr S. M'Alister presided over a poor attendance.
Mr E. T. Martin moved that, in order to safeguard the interests of the residents, a Beckenham-Fisherton Residents' Association should be formed.
Mr L. J. Harper seconded the motion, which was carried.
At this stage Mr M'Alister resigned the chair, and on the motion of Mr Martin, seconded by Mr L. J. Harper, Mr Charleson was appointed temporary chairman of the association. Officers were appointed us follow: Secretary, Mr T. Carlisle; treasurer, Mr Charleson: interim committee, Messrs Martin, Carlisle, M'Alister, Harper, Charleson and Cormick. The secretary was authorised to advertise the next meeting, the date being fixed for October 9. The chairman referred to the condition of the septic tank in Malcolm Avenue, and stated that it was a perfect disgrace. He moved that the local authorities and the Public Health Department should be comnuinicated with on the matter.
Mr Martin seconded the motion. Mr G. Cormick said that the Drainage Board was the body to bo approachMr M'Alister contended that the Heathcote County Council was responsible for the tank. Ho moved an amendment that the tanks at fkickthorne and Quarry Roads should be included. Mr Harper seconded the amendment, which was lost. The motion was then carried. On the motion of Mr M'Alister, it was decided to scud a letter to the City Council drawing attention to the fact that a sum of £125 had been placed on the estimates for the improvement of Beckenham Park, and suggesting that the work should be carried out by returned soldiers. It was also decided that a letter should be sent to the Works Committee of the City Council asking that the south side of Sandwich Road should bo asphalted. A vote of thanks was passed to Councillor E. Peck and other councillors who had helped to reserve the springs for the use of Beckenham Park.
Mr Martin said he did not think the present amount of water was sufficient for the erection of an expensive pumping plant. It was decided that tho Fire Board should bo written to and nsked to extend the fire system to Fisherton.
