SMALL AMERICAN SCHOONER ON WAY FROM PACIFIC SLOPE. There is at present op the way from San Francisco to Wellington a schooner of 290 tons which is one of the smallest vessels that has ever brought a carcro to Wellington from the Pacific Slope. It is the American threemasted Bchooner Jiether Buhne, which is but a few tons larger than the coastal schooner Huia, now on her way to Wellington from Now Plymouth. The American schooner A. B. Johnson, which brought a lumber cargo to Wellington a few months ago, was almost twice the size of the Esther Buhno. To see bo small a vessel engaged in such a trade is but an indication of the intense shortage of tonnage which prevails all over the world. Prior to the war the engagement of such a vessel as the Esther Buhno to brin? cargo from the Pacific Slops to New Zealand would not have been at all profitable, but with the exorbitant freight rates ruling there is no doubt that such a voyage would not have been undertaken were it not worth white to the owners. SCOW OVERDUE. Some anxiety is being felt in Wellington for the whereabouts of the scow Arrah-na-Pogue, which left tho northern port about forty days ago for HoJcianga to load for Auckland. The vessel shortly after leaving Wellington was reported sheltering near Blenheim, but since tnen nothing has been heard of her. The Arrah-nu-Pogue is looked upon as a very staunch craft and was to have been docked at Auckland for survey. SHIPPING NOTES. After a passage of eight days, the auxiliary scow Eunice arrived in port on Saturday morning from Kaiapoi. The vessel, which brought a full cargo of timber, experienced variable winds. It is understood that the Eunice will be laid up indefinitely. Mr M'Murtrie, chief engineer of the Westralia, has rejoined his vessel and Mr Paxton,' acting-chief, has gone ashore.
