RELIEF OF ROSS SEA PARTY.

NO NEED FOR ANXIETY.

LONDON. October I*l ~ The "Daily Chronicle" states that Sir Ernest Shackleton has cabled tho authorities in London as follows: ; I have now received full details of the position of the Ross Sea side of my expedition.; After a careful examination cf the facts, I have come to the conclusion that there should bo no undue anxiety concerning the safety of tho men marooned in MacMurdo Sound. There is ample provisions andi. fuel for this party for another year, and their clothing should last withcaro. There are also some blankets in the hut. at Capo Royds. The non-return of Captain Mackintosh and his party by May 6, 1910, is tho only disturbing factor, but possibly it was due to the condition of the ico between Hut Point and Cape Evans. Should anything have happened'to them, their fate will now have been definitely ascertained by. the . four scientists at Cape Evans.

1 am proceeding by the first avilable boat, leaving Buenos Aires on October 9 for England. I will spend a few days , there and adjust the, affairs of the ex- , pedition. Then I will leave in all haste for Australia, and %viil personally lead the Ross Sea relief expedition. I- consider that nothing will be gained by the Aurora leaving New Zealand before the first week in January, as the ice conditions will be much better than they . will be earlier, and a speedy passage will be possible. My most grateful thanks are due tothe Commonwealth and New Zealand Governments' generous help and sympathy in this'time of the .expedition's nesd. ■■''"
