FRUIT LANDS OF THE NORTH.
A HELPFUL BOOK. OPPORTUNITIES FOR AIOXEYAIAKING. Fruit culture is now recognise.d_ .as one of Now Zealand’s great, industries., A book just issued by tho Kaipara. Fruit Lauds Development Association is, therefore, of great interest. It is entitled ‘ ‘ Tho Fruit Lunds of the North,” and is handsomely printed and illustrated It refers particularly to the fruit lands on the Buores of the Kaipara Harbour, whero there are being established extensive fruit settlements known as Komiti and Puketotara. Theso settlements are adjacent to the largest apple-produeing district in the North Island—Port Albert.
The purpose of tho book is to convey to the public of Now Zealand how thoroughly "and efficiently the organisation of these fruit settlements is being carried out. It is impossible for us, in one issue, to deal effectively with the various phases of fruit-growing as covered by the book. AVo propose, however, from time to time to publish short articles based on extracts from tho book and dealing with such questions as the following:— Does fruit-growing pay? AVliat capital is required? AVliat are the chief difficulties? How long before an orchard becomes profitable? Can the North produce the export-keep-ing quality of fruit? AVhere andi .what are the apple markets? Also articles dealing with the value of shipping facilities, of good supervision arrangements, and the residential advantages of the North. Anvono interested may obtain a copy of the book—absolutely free—on application to the Secretary, Box 603, Wellington. S I OS
