MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT AND BOROUGH COUNCILLORS.

At last night's meeting of the- Riocarton Borough Council Councillor T. J. Stokes said that ho had much pleasure in laying before the council an offer from Mr G. Witty, M.P., of a number of books, Efiich as New Zealand Year Books, and volumes relative to' Parliament, which Mr Witty thought might be of value to the council. Ho moved that the offer should tfe accepted. Councillor A. Hampton made an attack on Mr'Witty and his actions during the last session of Parliament. He assorted that Mr Witty had allied himself with others to make trouble for the National Government .all along the line, and as a Britisher ho wouldyraovo that tho offer should bo declined.

Tho Mayor ((Mr J. Brown) said that tho motion to accept the offer had not been seconded. ... Councillor T. J. Stokes deprecated Councillor Hampton's attack on Mr Witty and said that he was'.sorry to see politics brought into the business of the council. What Mr Witty had done did not concern tho council. Ho was sure the majority of the electors were of an entirely different opinion. Under .the circumstances he would, withdraw' the motion. " , ( ' The motion was then withdrawn.
