MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
A very successful concert was held in the Excelsior Hall. Lyttelton, last night, in aid of the piano fund of Ino Methodist Church. The programme .was arranged by the Bristol Concert- J?nrty, end included yocul items hj Alis«es Alys Gower-Burns and Doris Ilawkinson Airs R. A. Home, and) Messrs C. H. Taylor and Hugh Hobbs, humorous recitations bv Mr W. 11. Jones, ancl a pianoforte solo by" Air A. L. Sutton. Tho company also contributed two humorous items. Messrs R. A. Ilorno and A. L. Sutton played tne accompaniments. , _ The half-yearly meeting the Papa mu Social Club was held in ’-he ciubrooin on Aland ay evening. The president (Air J. R. M'Cullough) occupied the chair. there was a large attendance. The secretary (Mr I>. EFoote) read tho balance-sheet, which showed that- tho receipts for the half-year totalled £3O 17s 7d, and tho expenditure £29 7s la, leaving a balance in hand of £1 10s tel. The report was adopted. The Papanui School Committee held a euchre partv and dance in aid of the Prize and Picnic Fund on Tuesday evening, m the Masonic .Hall. There was a largo attendance. Tho winners wore Misses .Moorish and Prient and' Messrs M'Causlnnd and' Stevens. Mr M'Cmisland returned his prize to the committeo. The annual meeting of the Philupstown Creche and Kindergarten Committee was held at 21, Phillip Strict, Limvood, on Tuesday. Eiu-ht’ mombers were proseut, and Airs Williams presided. The head mistress (ALB 3 Willis) reported that the highest attendance h a ,l boon 50 and the lowdst 15, the average being 45.7. At the third '-f tbo series ot mothers’ mootings there was on view an exhibition of hand work which had been done by tho children during the winter months. In the absence of the speaker, ALiss Hull had given an interesting talk on the Alontossori apparatus nnd on tho making oi simple toys. Mrs G. Burn was unanimously elected "" to the committee. The committee was re-elected. Tho treasurer reported that the financial position was very satisfactory. Alesdames Glen and Griffiths' were appointed a visiting committee far ihe month. It was reported that tho school subscriptions amounted to £1 13s and sales to £1 3s 6d, a total of £2 14s Gd.
