HOW MODERN INVENTIVE SCIENCE IMPROVES THE CONDITIONS OF COUNTRY LIFE.

... One of the great drawbacks of country life has been the difficulty of s-o-

curing satisfactory’ lighting conditions, hut this disadvantage is now readily Overcome, thanks to modern intuitive genius. Sinco the old tallow flame gave way to the kerosene lamp, with its attendant smoko and soot, very little has been dono to improve country house lighting that would come within the reach of tho man of moderate means. Now, however, a-system has been invented which gives all tho advantages of city electricity at a surprisingly low cost. Wo refer to the famous Wizard Hollow-wire system of

lighting, with the use of ordinary petrol or benzine. The Wizard system is simple and safe, consisting only of a tank and hollow brass wire, and all lamps are of tho highest standard quality, scientifically constructed and mechanically perfect. Every article 1s thoroughly tested by a staff of skilled experts before leaving the factory. The Wizard system is to all appear-

anccs an ordinary gas installation —same kind of lamps through a purer, clearer light. No danger, no dirt, i smoke or soot. No lamps to clean, and a system that has the approval of the National Board of Underwriters, besides which it is guaranteed free from 1 all mechanical defects for a period of five years. A point most users appreciate, too, in that the lamps can be , lit with an ordinary match, and are automatically kept clean—the two essential features of a perfect lighting system. Tlie question of lighting for houses, ;

shops, lialls, churches etc., in the country has been a bugbear to architects and builders for many years, and many of them are inquiring into the undoubted advantages supplied by the hollow-wire systems. On inquiry it was found that all of the plants at present being used by the New Zealand Government are giving complete satisfaction. One plant installed in the Awarua wireless station has been constant use on an average of twelve hours per night for nearly a year, and according to the engineer in charge, has not developed a single-fault, while during the past year hollow-wire systems have been installed in many of the finest country homes in the Dominion. During the past year over 1500 complete systems have been sold in the Dominion—a surely wonderful record. When such satisfactory results have been achieved there should be reason to conclude that the lighting problem in the country has been definitely solved. The local agents, Messrs Cuddon and Jameson, 213, Manchester Street, will be pleased to furnish the fullest information and arrange for a demonstration quite free of obligation, at any time on request. 9
