MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

A meeting; of the Christchurch Hairdressers and Tobacconists' Association was held on Wednesday. There wa3 a full attendance of members. The recently adopted rules of the association were approved. Correspondence wai received from the Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers, asking 1 lor a conference between tho two bodies to consider certain alterations of tho industrial award, details of which wero given. It was decided to accede to the request, of the employees’ union, and to appoint the president (Mr Hoppy), and Messrs W. Simpson and T. Smith to act for the association in tho matter. The. action of some hotels, somo restaurants and somo 6mall shops in selling tobacco, cigarettes and cigars after G p.m. was fully discussed, and it was decided to Commence an active campaign in connection with those breaches of thu law.
