MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., presided at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. On a charge of drunkenness, Thomas Leonard, a second offender, was filled 10s or forty-oight hours in gaol. Frances Curry was convicted on a charge of drunkenness and was oideled to come up for sentence when called upon, and to remain in _ the Mount Magdala Institution for six months. Joe Cook, a chinaman, was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond and having insufficient means ol support. Ho was sentenced to six months imprisonment. Edward Dobur M’Gee and Milliam Gilliland were charged with having at Christchurch, bn August 15, attempted to rob William Edward M Manus of about £2 12s in cash and with having assaulted him. Tho ease was adjourned to August 25, bail being allowed in £2OO and one surety of £2OO. Judgment was given in the following civil cases for plaintiffs by default with costs :-A. A. Needham (Mr Cuuingham) v. Thomas O Connor, £4 7s Gd; Christchurch Dainties, Ltd., v. Charles Bagnell, £5 11s sd; Riccaiton Borough Council v. W. B. Tregonnmg, £4 6s 7d.
ASHBURTON. Mr R. Clark, J.P., presided at tho Ashburton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. _ .. Llewelyn Price, alias Prycc. alias Sanderlands, was charged with obtaining £2 by falso pretences from "William Hurford Hutchison at Christchurch on July 22. Accused was remanded to appear at the Christchurch Court on tho following day.
