SCHOOL COMMITTEES ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Canterbury School Committees* - Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. last evening. Tho president (Mr \V. Pevexili) was in tho chair, and about fifty members were present. After considerable discussion it was resolved that the Government should be respectfully requested to consider tho advisability of standardising all school text books, with a view to decreasing the cost to tho parents and insuring uniformity throughout the public schools in the Dominion. It was decided to forward a cuoy of the resolution to ih© Minister of Education, the Council of Education, the Board of Education, and the members of the. district, requesting the last named to take up the matter with the Minister. The president, vice-president, Mr W. Jones and the secretary (Mr W. H. Joyce) were, appointed to meet representatives of the Education Institute and Mle Teachers’ Institute with a view to pusfiling forward the resolution with regard to the standardising of school books. A vote of thanks was passed to Colonel R. H. Rhodes for his generous donation towards a Kitchener memorial scholarship. It was decided to write to 'he Minister aud tho Council of Education recommending that tho scholarship should be confined to pupils from primary schools.
