COUNTY COUNCILS.

TAWEEA. Tho Tavern. County Council met on Monday; , preeont—Messrs Seymour (chairmen), Evans, Hanson, Millikcn, O'Shaushncssy nnd 'Jhuloclge.

Mr S. E. Rutherford wrote, asking to have th? road from tbe main Kowni Bush Ro-nd to his wcoljhed, formed <ind metalled. It v.-as decided to call tenders for the formation. 3U It. J. L). Junes wrote, askiug to have seme of the free? cut <m the Cemetery Reserve, as they were injurious to part of his land. It was agreed lo have some of the trees cut if suitable lebonr was available. Messrs Milliken Rros. again wrote in connection with ranking the road to Anna-ale. Tho council resolved to adhere to its resolution passed last month not to make the road, as tin cost was prohibitive, nnd it v.-as unnecessary (o have two ror.ds running parallel such i'. short distance apart. Mr Binnie applied for an extension of tim« for tho opening - up of Taylor's Road. Mr Seymour made a simi'or application. It wns resolved to grant an extension of two moti'hs to all owners of land fronting the road. Mr Seymour's application to cut willows that wee obstructing his line of fence wti3 granted. Mr Duncan asked penn'maion to put a drain in continuance of one already in existence. The. chairman stated that lie lir.d seen the ground where it wan asked the drain should be made, and he did not think any damage would be done, but ho would li'-e to have the opinion of the other two members of the Springfield Riding. A meeting on the gtound ivas arranged.

SELWYIT. The Selwy/i County Council met on Monday; present —Messrs K. Wilson (chairman), ■l.'llockaridgc, \V. Stono, K. Murchison, 1). W. Westenra and V. J. Andrew. The returning officer reported that he had received Mr J. W. Lill'a resignation as a member of tho council, <md steps were being token to fill the vacancy. A general rate of five-eighths of a penny was levied on all the rateabb property in the county. It was decided to call tenders for shingle Repairs to Downs Road, Glenroy, and iiororata- Road. Tenders for timber and iron work for the Ccalgatc Brigc were accepted. The AuditorOcneral forwarded tho balance-sheet for iho year ended March 31, 1916, to which he had certified. The Public Works Department wrote, approving of plans and specifications of a bridge over Gleixloro Creek, and authority to proceed with the erection of the structure.

The Minister of Internal Affairs wroto regarding the Belgium Fund, stating that lie had dono his best to bring the local bodies into line, but it was entirely n matter for the various local bodies themselves to arrange payment. Tho Oxford County Council «met on Tuesday: present—Messrs .T. Well* (chairman), A Baxter. IT. Campbell. D. Hftwkc, E. \v. Meyer and .T. M'Cormack. Mr Campbell moved, in accordance with notice, that o haif-pennv, general rate should b.> made on both the North and South Ridings of the county for the current year: also that the Eyre water-race rale should be ■ threepence-halfpenny an aero, the Coopers Cicok water-race sixpence an acre and on© pennv in tho pound on improvements, and tin Gamman's Creek water-race sixpence mi acre and one pennv halfpenny in tho pound 01 improvements, the same as for ,,;" st y mT ,- The motion was seconded by Mr M Cornmck and carried. It was resolved that a loan should bo raised on the Gammans Creek water-race district.
